Monochrome: Color Studies

Please note: This online exhibition is a work in progress. I am still working on several paintings from the series and will update as I go along.

Every study is an exercise in painting a pure shade of color made from a single pigment.

The motivation to paint these studies was to understand the materials I am working with as an artist. The color in paint is pigment, dust ground from different materials, such as metal, rock, or bones. Each pigment has distinct properties, and to discover these I decided to remove any variables. By reducing painting to its absolute minimum, I've found new challenges and complexity.
